WHAT ARE SOCRATIC METHODISTS?
INDIVIDUALS IN A GROUP WHO PRACTICE THE SOCRATIC METHOD AND APPLY ITS PRINCIPLES TO DISCUSSIONS IN ORDER TO (1) ANALYZE ANY ISSUE; (2) REACH RATIONAL CONCLUSIONS ABOUT THAT ISSUE; AND (3) FORMULATE EFFECTIVE ACTIONS WITH RESPECT TO THAT ISSUE IF IT IS DEEMED DESIRABLE OR NECESSARY TO DO SO. THE SOCRATIC METHOD IN THIS CONTEXT MAY BE DESCRIBED AS FOLLOWS:

Socrates believed that teaching by asking PROBATIVE QUESTIONS, known as the Socratic Method, was the best way to learn (and to find truth) because it:
1.Encourages participants to actively examine their own ideas.
2. Reaches conclusions through thoughtful and probing questioning, essentially "birthing" knowledge within themselves rather than simply receiving information from a teacher. And,
3. Subjects any matter of controversy or issue to a question or questions to seek answers in a freewheeling dialogue aimed to reach rational and incisive conclusions—sometimes described as "The Truth" or "A Truth".
